This morning our moods were much better! Amazing what sleep can do for you! We got showered, packed and checked out before going to the gas station to fuel up and clean our windshields. You would not believe the bugs we drove through last night!
So gross!
My truck driver! :)
We drove through Texas,
past the giant wind turbines (so cool)
oil rigs ("I drink your milkshake!"),
and right through Red Raider country. We passed Midland, where once upon a time I almost moved! It made me wonder about my old flame. I hope he found happiness, because I am certain I broke his heart.
Jason became known as the butterfly killer later :(
We passed a looong train that reminded me of the old train sets.
We saw a pretty rainbow at one of our gas stops,
and we took a little detour when we tried to get gas somewhere in the middle of nowhere.
It's beautiful country! We passed the Rio Grande and saw the giant star in El Paso at twilight.
We chased the daylight in New Mexico and watched one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen over the mountains there.
I love this one because it looks like the Arizona flag! :)
After it was dark, Jason enjoyed "talking trucker" again. :) I teased him that if this whole doctor thing doesn't work out, he could be a truck driver! Ha ha ha! In New Mexico, we had to pull over for an inspection. I guess because it was close to the border? They asked Jason a bunch of questions but waved me through. Jason's line was shorter, so he got through more quickly and had to wait on the shoulder for me! It was dark, but I could tell we were in the middle of nowhere, because there were lots of signs warning of dust storms!
We stopped about 2 hours from Tucson, and I said, I could still go on, only to call him minutes later doubting my decision. He wanted to keep going, but then felt bad and called me back to tell me we could stop it I wanted. I told him no. I wanted to just get there. UGH! We had been on the road for 14 hours and I was starting to get sleepy.
There were a lot of phone calls exchanged in those last two hours. I actually sipped some of the 5 hour energy drink and just kept telling myself just a little further and I won't have to drive any more tomorrow!!
ARIZONA AT LAST!!!
I was so happy when I started seeing signs for Tucson! :) FINALLY after 36 hours, 20 minutes over 3 days and 2,053 miles... we made it to our destination! :) YAY! I was so tired! I told Jason to be VERY careful wherever he parks he needs to make sure that he can get out. 100% sure, because I wasn't up for another frustrating night like we had in Ft. Worth. He parked out on the road and I pulled into the lot, and noticed he went to the office door, but didn't go in. I said, "Don't even tell me they aren't open!" Jason replied, "Right, they are not open!" UGH! So... we decided to go across the street and stay at the Red Roof. I was exhausted. The longest day of driving I had done before this trip was 8 hours. Today was double that! We parked, got our bags, locked up and got in the room. I was so tired... yet I was wired from the 5 hour energy sips and candy I had to keep me awake those last 2 hours! Poor Jason, I'm making him crazy! Well... we are here. Thank God for having us arrive safely at our destination! I was so worried, but He watched over us. He always does.
Day 3: Left Ft. Worth at 11:20 am (central time) arrived at a Red Roof Inn at 1:20 am (mountain standard time) = 16 hours. Stopped in Texas for lunch at Sonic & stops for gas.
