Saturday with Stonehouse

This morning we got up and enjoyed some coffee and a Entenmann's Raspberry Danish before heading to the Titan Missile Museum.
Me doing an imitation of CB guy. (one of Jason's old patients)
Even Jason the giant looks like a shrimp next to this radio tower.
Andy and I at the entrance.
Wait... what?  Rattlesnakes??!!??!!

Jason preparing for our tour.  ;)
This is the suit that was supposed to protect them from radiation I think...
doesn't look like much to me!!
The top of a missile in the lobby.

Giant people are required to wear a hard hat!
First set of boosters to get the missile up.
Second booster and our tour guide Hap.  He's so good, he can give you the tour with his eyes closed.
The boys learning about the fuel system.  Fascinating to them...
I guess...
snooze-fest for me!
 THE Titan II Missile.
The Titan II missile is the largest missile ever built by the United States.  The Titan II Missile program was a Cold War weapons system featuring fifty-four launch complexes in three states.  Three Strategic Missile Wings, each housing two Strategic Missile Squadrons of nine missiles each, were established at Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas, Davis-Montham Air Force Base in Arizona, and McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas.  When built, these areas were not very populated, decreasing the threat to the community.  They were all located in the south because this would give the United States more time to retaliate if we were attacked.
It goes waaaaaaay down.  You can take a tour down there... for only $70 you can explore all 8 levels of the underground silo.  No thanks.

Intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems were part of a three-pronged nuclear weapon strategy that included manned bombers, land-based ICBMs, and sea-launched ballistic missiles. The ICBMs needed only thirty to thirty-five minutes to reach their targets, making them capable of first strikes on enemy territory. Their powerful warheads were designed to destroy enemy capabilities with one blow. Titan II ICBMs had a range of 5,500 miles, enabling them to hit targets in China and the Soviet Union.  The Titan II program was part of the second generation of ICBMs, and missiles could be launched from within their silos in less than a minute.
They had to cut a hole in the top and do a bunch of other stuff to make the Soviets satisfied that we could not launch it... ever.

This Titan Missile Museum is the only publicly accessible Titan II missile site in the nation.  All the others have been destroyed.  Destruction of the launch complexes required demolition of the launch ducts to a depth of some twenty-five feet, followed by excavation of soil around the silo to that depth. After being left open for six months to allow Soviet satellite confirmation of their destruction, the ducts were filled with debris, capped, covered with dirt, and seeded with grass.  This is the only Titan II site remaining.
One of a series of 3-ton blast doors.
A view from down under... only one floor down.
Duck!  LOL
Following Hap's tour guide partner... don't remember his name, but we'll call him Mr. Grumpy.
Entering the control room.
I could never work there.  I would want to push all the buttons.  ;)
This kid is helping Hap with a simulated launch.
 On our way out.
Quick photo while Mr. Grumpy tells us we need to hurry!!
Back top-side I decided to try out Jason's hard hat.
It's bright and hot out here!  They asked if anyone had a question and I wanted to ask, "Can we take questions inside???"
I was having too much fun playing with the hard hat.  :P
I really think I should have got this shirt... or at least someone should have bought it for me!  LOL
Heading to Tucson.
Andy asked if this was common here... I said I guess so, I see it a lot!  HA!!
(remember my post about it recently?)
It's a beautiful drive.
Are you sick of all my mountain pictures yet?  :)
Hummm... where should we go for lunch?
Of course... Animal style baby!!  YUM!!!
 Best fries ever.
Lots of tailgating going on at U of A.
Seriously, bugs hate me... or my skin hates bugs!
U of A
We walked around campus.
It's very artsy...
 and very beautiful.
Cool campus.
I like it here.
Time to go get a drink and cool off.
Just the place. :)
 HA!
 I've had a fun day!
Headed home.
We went to the pool for a bit.
The boys talking... Andy's in the pool, Jason's on a chair.

Drinking "water" in my new pink U of A bottle!
Jason and Andy joined me in the hot tub...
...and after we got out some pervert couple surrounded themselves in the hot tub with lounge chairs ...for privacy I guess?  Ewwww!  Then some kids jumped in the hot tub and they had to take their fort down!  LMAO!
After the entertainment, we decided to go to El Charro for dinner.
My delicious dinner... Taquitos Guac-ogados.  Three taquitos of shredded chicken smothered in avocado crema .  ;P
Jason got the Ceviche Tostaditas.  Aren't they pretty?
After we got home we watched the movie Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.  It was good, but my sweetie was sooooo tired...
He fell asleep in the middle for a bit, but luckily woke up and got back into it.
Great day!
