Oh Telluride... we don't want to leave you. Jason called it. He knew I would say, "Can't we just stay a couple more days?" I always do. But I want to get home to celebrate Christmas, so we got up, ate breakfast and got going.
Of course snow began falling on our last night there and we awoke to a winter wonderland making it even more difficult to leave.
Getting out of Telluride driving out on ice-covered mountainous roads with no guardrails as I gripped the armrest and squinted my eyes shut... no problem whatsoever.
We spent the rest of the day alternating between sunshine and snow showers, clear roads and roads so covered in white you can't tell where the road is.
I mentioned to Jason that I didn't know how he was seeing where to go and he replied, "Just wait until it gets dark." We had some trouble getting traction starting again at a stoplight in a town in the White Mountains of Arizona.
It was getting dark and as we passed the Best Western I secretly wished we were staying there for the night. About a mile down the road the sign said that 60 was closed. So after 2 hours of driving on ice & snow, we were
forced to get a hotel room in Show Low, AZ. We found out there was a vacancy at that Best Western I had wished for, little did I know my husband had secretly wished the exact same thing. Driving in that kind of weather is exhausting and for me even though I wasn't the driver, it was equally draining. We learned from the clerk that 60 was closed due to an accident involving a truck jack-knifing and a few
other cars.
Glad we weren't involved in that and made it safely to our warm
room for the night.
We treated ourselves to a nice dinner at the Mexican place next door.
Luckily the road was fine in the morning
and we were able to make it home!
We arrived to a mailbox full of love... Christmas cards from all our friends & family! :)
Poor hubby was exhausted!
Bags unpacked, Christmas tree lit, fire in the fireplace and feet up! Let's get this holiday ON! :)
