Yesterday was Jason’s first shift, and last night was his first overnight on call shift! He left the house yesterday morning at 6:45 am and called me at 9 am this morning to see where he should sleep & check in with me. I asked if he was sleepy and he said he was tired and manic due to all the coffee and 5 hour energy drinks! He said it went well, but he was overwhelmed by the flood of information, learning how things work & acronyms. “Baptism by fire” as he said. Apparently one of his colleagues said he felt the same way this morning. While on call, they have a pager, and also a phone that rings of the hook for pretty minor crap. He was surprised to see that the system here was inefficient compared to Pikeville. It sounds like information about a patient is in several locations, but I reassured him that he would get used to this new system & that probably just it being new to him makes it seem even more confusing. He said he is hopeful that this new merger with the two hospitals it will make things more efficient.
He was by himself, but ran everything by 2nd year resident X, who he said he was so grateful for. He said he thanked her for all her help and she explained her first shift was worse, and that everything he’s feeling is normal. He said he hardly saw the attending last night... they are spread so thin. This morning he discussed stuff with Dr. S and she said to calm down, it’s normal to feel the way Jason is feeling. He’s had about 3 hours of sleep. No time for his laptop he brought, besides they have computer there if he needs one. They have bunk beds, bathroom & shower in the residents lounge. He decided to sleep a little longer there before he came home since he’s so tired. Plus we are having all our furniture delivered today! Bad timing for someone who has been up for 24 hours! :( I am so glad he has the next few days off!! Unfortunately when the furniture was delivered I was here all alone. The guys from Ashley were very nice and courteous, but the Sam Levitz guys were not so nice. Everything was going fine, except they had some trouble getting the sofas in the front door. I was all worried about the furniture and making sure it wasn't damaged. Then just before the left I checked the front door. I saw they had scratched the door frame and signed off their sheet stating that they had damaged the front door.

Granted, it's not terrible, but it is our front door!! First the guy said they fix stuff like that but it comes out of their pocket, then he started saying they didn't make some of the marks and questioning me. "Are you SURE that it wasn't there before?" YES!!! I started getting really fired up because of he was questioning me and that's when Jason showed up. He asked if the fridge delivery could have done it, and when I said "NO, absolutely not." He told the guy that they were going to have to fix it. I was so glad he showed up when he did. He said he didn't appreciate them talking to me like that. I love my husband. It's so nice to know when I need it, he is there for me! :)
I think our furniture looks great. Yeah, we need to make up the beds and add lots of touches,
and we have to wait a little longer to sleep in our bed. :( They are going to deliver the slats tomorrow, since the ones in the box were for a queen not a king. Bummer! At least that was the Ashley guys! LOL So, one more night on the air mattress since our room looks like this:
This evening we went for a walk around the lake. It's so pretty down there.
Then we went home and hooked up the TV
...and enjoyed our new furniture! Ahhh! So nice! :)
I am VERY HAPPY!!! My family, my house, my new furniture... awesome!
