I just got news about my friends Sarah & Ken and their little baby Rowan! Well, today, Father's Day, Rowan decided to be the present!!!!!
Sarah's doctor said this morning that they were going to have to continue to monitor because of his lack of movement and high blood pressure (and hers). Long, LONG, LONG, LONG story short, Sarah had an emergency C-section and he was born at 4:14 pm at JC Medical Center. Sarah is doing well, though of course she has pain tonight. Rowan was 4 lbs 10 ozs and luckily had had 2 shots of betamethazone for lung development. He is in NICU of course because of his gastroschisis. The good news is that the majority of his intestines went right back into his abdominal cavity with little problem. However, they did find a "netting" or intestinal blockage in part of the lower intestine. They left part of that out in a silo and on Tuesday will hopefully resect that part of the intestine and reinsert it. He is on a vent but they said considering everything he was doing well. Sarah was almost 34 weeks' pregnant.
Rowan has black hair, and as you can see by the pictures, he inherited his mom's long arms, legs and most notably, her long toes!!!!
His entrance into this world scared his parents to death, but hopefully from this point on it will be OK. He is expected to be in the hospital for at least 8 weeks...just depends. There were 2 other babies in the NICU with gastroschisis.
Sarah will be in the hospital, I'm assuming for 3-5 days. I wanted to share these pictures of my sweet angel....and ask for your continuing prayers.
